Review on Kwikset 98880-004 SmartCode 888 Z-Wave Plus Smart Lock Touchpad Electronic Deadbolt in Satin Nickel with SmartKey Security by Matthew Mrspeach

I have several Kwikset 888 deadbolts and they work very well. It pairs easily with the Samsung Hub and is fairly easy to manage through the SmartThings apps. However, they have a rather poor processing quality. I went through 3 that failed in various ways before finding the ones that actually worked. And the ones I have that should be the same are oddly different - some have backlit buttons and don't beep, and some just beep and don't light up. For the price, they should be of much better quality and consistency. For $80 it's worth a lot more. But for 140€ it is too expensive. Kwikset (or any other brand) could make a lot of money if they just made these things with better electronics, a smaller form factor and a 18650 battery. 4xAA is redundant and lazy. Pros: - Simple enough to be mounted on a door - Pairs easily with Samsung SmartThings - Decent looks - Simple enough to automate scheduled lock or programming codes Cons: - Very poor build quality/QC - Too expensive for the product quality - Difficult to tell what is actual model/features, by model number or product name, they all look the same but some of them are Z-Wave Plus (the best option if you can find out if it is Z-Wave ) - the inside is huge, there is no effort for smaller design - 4 x AA batteries don't last very long, no possibility to recharge - sometimes inexplicably disconnects - several of them inexplicably have different functions
