APPLICATION: Remove the spindle screw from the crank (the silver side of the tool has a built in socket). Move the silver component away from the black part until it protrudes. Carefully screw the black component into the crank, this is a fine thread. You have to screw it all the way in so you don't tear the crank, but you don't need it very tight (which can also tear the crank)! Just let him sit full. Then screw in the silver bushing until it pushes the crank away from the shaft. A bad tool for sure, but it did the job. I have the Park Tools version (much better) but wanted it on a trip. This one came to me with the threads tied. I oiled it and inserted the black component into the silver rod with a couple of wrenches and it came free. I've also noticed imperfections in the "bottom" casting that abuts the spindle. Nothing very serious, but I think it's a gamble whether you get a working tool or not. Apart from that everything is alright.
