Difficult to install but works great

Works great but was difficult to install - I'm usually pretty good at installing things from Ring cameras and doorbells to Nest thermostats but this one got me causes more problems than most. The instructions are a little confusing, but the real problem is that the whole system isn't that well designed. I think the problem is that this is designed to work with almost any opener. That's good, but it also requires the owner to understand how things work and install multiple components in the system. The app itself appears to be outdated and had a few glitches that made installation more confusing. I highly recommend watching Genie's YouTube installation videos. They're well done and should help you a bit. I have previously used the Chamberlain MyQ system which was much easier to install. My new address had an opener that wasn't compatible with the MyQ stuff I had, so I decided to give it a try. Now that everything is up and running I think it's about as good as the MyQ system. The response time of the open/close notification is fast and accurate. So functionally it works great. design however. Not as good as we would like. The hardware is ugly. And look at those wires. Of course I could clean them up a bit and probably no one else would even look at them, but still. The app is ugly and outdated, so I'm hoping we'll see an update to the app and some support for Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant. [Edit: Apparently supports Alexa and Google Assistant now, but haven't tried that yet. The app still looks the same so no improvement.] If you have a Chamberlain/LiftMaster/Craftsman opener I would suggest using MyQ. If not, then this is a good system too. Update: Added Google Assistant support and updated user interface. Very good!
