First, they are very easy to use. Ammonia tests simply dip for 15 seconds, shake and observe. Another test is to dive and wait a minute. I confirmed the accuracy of both with a second test set. They're mostly accurate, but don't really have a huge range of colors. This is problematic when tuning a tank and trying to see if a given range increases or decreases. The colors on the strip are too similar to tell. For example, ammonia at 1 ppm looks very close to 5 ppm. It's very difficult to tell the difference. All of this is best used as a regular check to make sure everything is fine after the filter is working. Maybe use it after adding the fish just to see if there's any splatter. You're much better at determining if something is there than how much. Get the best test suite for it. That; However, it is easier and faster to use when the tank is in operation and is only for checking.
