Had a repeating CEL (code was P0420) on Outback 02 for the catalytic converter, even after replacement. I knew it was probably the downstream O2 sensor, but I still got CEL after replacing it twice. After a bit of work I found that at one point someone had mixed up the connector on the side of the car, but I couldn't find a connection even after running the wires through the engine compartment. With this generic sensor, I was able to cut off the defective sensor's connector and then reconnect the wires properly without making a return impossible by modifying the stock OEM version. Went like clockwork. No more CELs for more than 150 miles.
