Our original 2001 Honda Odyssey alternator started whine (which is a sign the bearings are starting to die). This alternator was an exact replacement. However, it took almost 3 hours. Removal/installation is not so easy, the gap is very small and one of the mounting screws was cut off during removal. Now the van sounds quiet again and the mpg is actually a bit better. I think the resistance due to the failed alternator bearings was higher than I thought. If it freezes while driving, the multi-ribbed drive belt would likely snap and all would be bad. I'm glad to be in a cheaper place. I've just started flickering battery and door open indicators on the dash. Investigations indicate a defective alternator. I will try to contact the seller for a replacement.
