I have been working in machine shops for 54 years. Having owned a cutting tool manufacturing and repair business for forty-one years, I know the importance of accurate and reliable measuring tools. Recently my shop was robbed and I was stolen a set of Starrett micrometers that I have used throughout my career. I chose her to replace her as I don't get into day to day production much anymore and don't plan to keep working for that long. I am very impressed with these microphones. I'll admit I was a bit brand snobbish about the generic gauges, but the fact of the matter is that the only thing I can complain about is the name that appears on these mics. I can't tell any difference between these and my very expensive mics that we stole. They're as smooth as silk, perfectly balanced, and have that indefinable "feel" that's so important to those of us who measure tenths in every measurement. The box, which many have complained about, is well built and suits the mics fairly well, and while it's not mahogany, it's more than adequate. These mics may or may not last fifty-four years, I'll never know. I know if someone steals them I won't sit down and cry.
