This powerline system actually worked quite well. I'm fairly knowledgeable about consumer electronics and would rate the setup as moderate. I live in a 100-year-old condominium, perhaps a less modern plumbing system played a role here. Regardless, I was able to get it working after about 3 hours of troubleshooting. This completely solved our problem with almost no wireless signal at the back of the apartment, and it only had to be reset once every six months. Then one day it just crashed. I wanted to start the reset process, and the adapter (the part that connects directly to the router or modem and transmits the signal through the wiring) just died. All LEDs were dark and no unplugging and plugging it back in could turn it back on. At this point I remembered that they have a published process for replacing defective products (perhaps this should have been a red flag from the start). I contacted their support team (via online chat; almost impossible to reach by phone) and it took them less than 10 minutes to determine that I had a defective product and they could replace it. They said that a member of their RMA department, the group that manages this process, would contact me within 3 business days. I received an email from RMA asking me for details to start the process which I promptly provided. Long story short, that was 6 weeks ago and no replacement is in sight. I have tried emailing the RMA group but they are not responding. I contacted general support and they (probably) sent additional emails. My request has now been marked as "Urgent" three times. Nobody has a direct phone number for the RMA group and nobody seems to be able to help me with replacing a defective product. Bottom line: if you can get a working Poweline system from TP-Link (assuming they make it), you'll probably be happy. But when it breaks and you need help replacing it, you're in for a long battle.
