Review on 8ft Kanulock Lockable Stainless Steel Tie Down Straps with Reinforced Design by Johnathan Rothstein

Thoughtful design

Worked great on a 3000 mile trip with four large paddle boards on the roof. The buckles adhere well to the shoulder straps and the locking mechanism works smoothly. I was worried that the straps would be too stiff and the cables might kink, but that's not the case. The thickness of the straps gives them some cushioning which seems to reduce vibration and therefore wind noise. The underside of the buckles are completely flat and covered in rubber to prevent damage to my boards (I paired them with NRS straps while riding - over 3000 miles NRS buckles had a groove in the boards but kanulock buckles did not ). The steel cords don't reach the last few inches of the straps - this makes it easier to thread them through the buckles (this does NOT compromise security - the ends of any straps you use will always be dangling). Oh I will say the keys didn't easily fit on a standard key fob so I drilled a slightly larger hole. It is a thoughtful product to prevent opportunistic theft.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
