Review on OTC 4507 Bearing Race Driver by David West

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Poor quality control and customer service

One of the discs I received in the kit was not processed properly. I bought a kit to make it easier to install new front axle bearings on my Toyota pickup. I needed two rim sizes: 1.965" and 2.555". I checked the fit by aligning the shims with the bearing races, but the 2.555" shim was against the edge of the raceway of the ring and not flush with the surface/rim. The 1.965 inch disc fitted perfectly. I emailed OTC/Bosch Tech Support and they responded quickly (kudos to OTC for that) but basically their response was that the drives are what they are and not for the individual intended use in any way. Tech support also told me that I could edit the disc for my specific application at my own expense, or use a next smaller disc (that would probably work, but a smaller contact area isn't ideal). Now I understand that the rims don't need to be tailored for a specific application, but I expected them to be more versatile and fit something as ordinary as a Toyota pickup. I took a chance and ordered a similar separate 2.555" wheel from Lisle Corp (#12650) to make sure my guesses about the machining were correct and the Lisle wheel was perfect for the race. I have other OTC products and they tend to be great, but this one is making a comeback. I'm sure I just had bad luck with OTC's quality control, but it would be nice if OTC would send me a replacement drive instead of forcing me to go to a competitor. My $0.02.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
