We bought a $600 chandelier for our dining room. I called the company and spoke to a designer so they could make changes to their product. The included plate offered only one mounting option, but if like us you have a box with side-by-side screw holes, this meant you could only aim the light in one direction and the mounting plate couldn't be rotated. This is where our problem began. To get it working without ripping open the box and opening the cover I had to widen the screw holes to fit a #10 screw to provide enough screw head to hold the plate with the unthreaded slots. (The mounting plate was supposed to use threaded holes to prevent shifting.) The original screws also stripped the holes, and I knew they wouldn't hold this new fixture. Although they are shorter than I would have preferred, they allowed me to re-tap the first half of the screw hole, at which point there was enough torque to screw on the rest of the hole.
