I like to check the temperature of everything I grill and almost every meat I cook. I've used several different thermometers over the years, some have been good, some have been terrible. I would rate this simply as excellent! It's the perfect size, not too small to get lost. After a quick calibration, I started testing at a family barbecue. Reading was accurate and very fast. There is a backlight, you can cook in the dark. It has a temperature scale on it, but it's hard for me to read with my old eyes. However, it does come with a large, full-spectrum meat temperature guide. Speaking of packaging, it's packed very well, including the foam to keep it from getting damaged in transit. It also has a built in opener for those pesky lids! This allows you to measure the pace and then record when your job requires it. There's also a removable battery! All in all, this is a thermometer that I would buy as a gift for my friends and family and would recommend to anyone.
