Review on πŸš€ Enhance Performance with Intel Optane Memory M10 16GB PCIe M.2 80mm by Lance Gunn

Revainrating 1 out of 5

I'll update if I ever get it working.

ATTENTION! This chip is for HDD, not SSD! This chip AND the program have been fighting me since day 1! I got it for a crazy price so there's no point in refunding it but oh my god it's such a waste of time! At this point in my installation experience, I understand that this is a pre-built add-on. this is the BIGGEST confusion I've encountered. over HUNDREDS of help posts on hundreds of forums and I still haven't found an answer to my problem. So I will try to make this review as simple as possible! NO: This chip is for your PC build process, NOT for a PC that already has an OS installed! NO: If you're building a PC, an SSD won't make your SSD any faster, it won't make your SSD that much better. YES: If you are building a PC with a very large hard disk drive (HDD), it will feel like you are running a Solid State Drive (SSD). NO: Although I have found forums that say the software has been updated, I still cannot get the secondary hard drive to work with this chip. YES: The M.2 slot REALLY messes with your SSD in a way that makes it unbootable unless you have the correct BIOS settings preset. I have no idea how but I read this because the M.2 port runs over a SATA connection so the Optane chip interrupts the SSD and the SSD doesn't offer any resistance, it just stops communicating. As far as I know it doesn't damage anything, it just stops communicating at boot, not while running. YES: You will need to update your BIOS to support this chip as it is a very similar program to RAID making it difficult to work properly. YES: I'm pretty sure you need to play around with the command line to get your system to recognize the chip and program and start the Optane Smart Storage Manager properly. NO: This M.2 is not NVMe, it is PCIe. NO: This is not a plug and play chip! You MUST know how the operating system works and your patience will be tested many times! YES: You must touch the motherboard to connect the Optane chip and you will need a small but long and preferably magnetic Phillips screwdriver. (Mine did NOT come with hardware but as I said I received this used and YES the chip/hardware works fine) YES: Intel 7th Gen CPU is supported and doesn't mean i7, I'm using i5 and I understand that my CPU is supported even though I can't get it to work with my hard drive. I think I've covered everything I've come across so far and I hope I've helped you with your Intel Optane M10 16GB Memory purchase. PCIe M.2 80mm.
