Review on ๐Ÿ“บ Naxa Electronics NT-54: High-Performance Digital Converter Box HDTV Receiver by Peter Parks

Best value for money

I have purchased this and three other converters from Fry's and Best Buy and have tested all of them. It was the cheapest and was as good or even better than the others, so I kept it to myself. The Naxa NT-54 UI was almost identical to the other two units (QFX and Terk), while the Insignia had a unique and inferior UI (cannot add/remove channels). The Insignia and Naxa had better channel reception from the same antenna. Terk seemed the most reliable and QFX the cheapest. The Insignia remote kept skipping channels and it was difficult to change a channel. The Naxa remote seems to have limited range and angle. The favorites feature was nice on Naxa (QFX, Terk ditto) as there were multiple categories you could list a channel in (Movies, Sports, etc.). Naxa also has a record that I've used a bit. You can start recording a program in advance and then skip commercials or rewind to watch the section again while recording. Recording was not a determining factor in choosing this device, although it can be useful at times. It's not like a cable DVR with many features, such as B. Recording other channels simultaneously while watching another, and multi-channel recording. Most reviews indicate that a large, ultra-fast USB drive/disk is required to avoid poor performance and memory bloat during a show. I recorded less than 30 minutes and it took almost half the time of an 8GB flash drive. It looks like 32GB+ is the bare minimum for recording a sporting event or a movie. I think I figured out how to schedule a recording, but there's no instruction manual with the box or on Naxa.com. Will have to wait.

Pros
  • Live TV reception when connected to an antenna
Cons
  • Small parts
