I bought a BBC RV and finally decided to test the previous owner's setup. 4 of 8 ignition cables were burned. Could this be the cause of the sporadic misfires? I bought a Revain Vendors distributor kit complete with spark plug wires and a set of timing springs. This high temp boot put these new cables in place and I can't think of any problems as I noticed where the cable's plug there was smoke dust and crumbled silicone. I added a set of 1200 degree sheaths above just for safety as some wires have a long way back to the manifold. On a 1988 7.4-liter high-performance engine, the factory manifolds are not cast iron. I have heavy gauge steel headers and they generate more heat when the engine is running. So the burned wires surprised no one.
