I'm new to using the traditional ink stone but I can't help but feel that flatter is better for the sanding surface. This item is reasonable, but I deducted 1 star because it took me less than 20 minutes to make it great. The manufacturer could spend very little time making them great from the factory. This is a high quality natural stone, very dense. The supplied refill ink is of medium to high quality. I found that the smell was neither unpleasant nor strong. Very well packed. Would recommend this product.
