Review on 🚗 Enhance Ride Quality with Monroe Shocks & Struts 58523 Shock Absorber and Coil Spring Assembly by Matthew Henderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

They are sold in pairs!

Okay historically shock absorbers are sold by the piece. Even Sensa-Trac shocks are sold by the piece. NOT THESE. You get a pair for the price. It's not on the Revain website, although there are two shocks in the picture - just like buying one item, it shows several different looks. So I have a second pair that I don't need. I thought it was overpriced but my shocks beat me to death for my job (hauling stuff 1000+ miles a week) so I spent the money. I haven't installed them yet, so I'll have to write a second review this weekend after they're installed. What I can tell you now is that when you buy Reflex shocks, they come pre-compressed and mated with platinum mounts. You simply disable them once you install them. Not so with these. You'll need big hands or a second jack to press them down. Unless you're very mechanical, I suggest just going to the store. It's not that it's hard; It's just that with a 2.2-liter engine with barebones suspension, even if you raise the car's body all the way, you don't get enough ground clearance. You will be jacking up the truck before you have the clearance you need to attach the shock absorbers. If you have a 4.3 with more reliable suspension, you might be fine. I ended up lifting the body as high as I could, then using a jack to slowly push the shock absorbers into place, then lightly tapped the stud with a hammer. If you attempt this, you must be patient and careful not to pinch and damage the shock in the axle. However, it is worth it. They ride very well even when the bed is empty and improve ride quality when loaded. They react quickly to uneven road surfaces, especially concrete pavements when there are steep changes in height on the highway. I would highly recommend these shocks to anyone traveling with a variety of loads.

Pros
  • So far everything seems
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
