Bad quality control.
Unfortunately the lock housing is poorly constructed. The barrel posts (bolt holes) holding the frame are too short, so tightening the bolts with more than 9 in-lb of force will cause the internal components to seize, preventing the release mechanism from moving freely. This occurs regardless of whether the unit is built into the actual door. We don't have time to send back and reorder, so we're working on some Loctite right now and will take care of that later.
