Our old faucet top had a slow drip that exited the front where the temperature setting meets the brass post. When I removed the old faucet to clean it, the main O-ring broke after reinstalling it, causing more flooding when I turned on the shower. The main o-ring looked fairly flattened and worn. Suffice it to say that the old faucet cover was already dead. It was originally installed in 1999. I was 16 years old. I was very nervous after spending $40 on a part that I wasn't entirely sure would solve the problem, but it helped. I've run the tub/shower for at least 20 minutes and now there have been absolutely no leaks from the brass stem or the main o-ring. The ideal solution. Keep in mind that the original faucet cover was held in place by a round metal ring, not the star shaped metal ring that came with this piece, but the other design still worked great for me.
