Review on πŸ›Ή IWONDER Electric Skateboard Wheels: High-Quality 83mm 85A Urethane Compound Longboard Wheels with ABEC 7 Bearings by Joel Mosqueda

Good Urethane - Poor Quality Control

I bought these wheels to build an electric skateboard. While they are doing their job I had many problems with the package I received. The main problem is the lack of precision in the manufacture of these wheels. Watch the video I posted and you will see the wheels are not turning. Something happened during the casting process that caused the wheels on 3 of the 4 wheels to deviate laterally and vertically. This gives vibrations when the wheel is spinning at full speed, but I don't feel them while riding. However, due to the wobble of the wheel, it was not possible to mount the wheel pulley. The pulley moves up and down with the wheel, causing the belt to tighten and loosen as it rotates (see the second half of the video). I have to leave my belt quite loose to allow for the tension change. Another, less damaging issue was core stability. The kit includes bearings and spacers, but there is not enough room in the wheel for the bearing. The distance between the bearings in the wheel is smaller than the spacer which results in one of the bearings protruding slightly as can be seen in the photos. The wheel itself is of good quality and the urethane is stronger. It's very similar to my Orangatang Boost wheels in terms of traction. It's tough, of course, but the slipperiness is there too (especially on wet roads). If you don't want to get off the board I would look elsewhere. However, I found wheel grip to be more than adequate for electric driving. Honestly for the price this is a good buy. The wheels do what I need at a reasonable price. I'm still disappointed in the imperfections in the wheel I received and not sure if it will be among all wheels or if I just got a really bad pair. If IWONDER can improve their hub design and quality control to eliminate the issues I've found, then these wheels will be an absolute steal. But at the moment I can't recommend it in its current state for people who want to collect a quality board. If you're on a budget this works, but there are better options if you're willing to pay a little more.

Pros
  • Wheel Hardness: 85A. They're soft enough that even gravel riding is a dream!
Cons
  • No instructions
