This part controls the speed of the heater/AC fan on my 2004 Tacoma 4x4. You wouldn't normally believe that such a simple part would fail. However, it has a thermal fuse that opens the circuit and thus prevents the fan speed from being adjusted (other than fully on or fully off). If you are replacing a fan, I recommend replacing this resistor at the same time. My blower was full of old leaves and dead grass and wasn't working. I also removed that resistor and found a mouse house that could start a fire under my dash. How they got into the ventilation system I'll never know. Fortunately, the Toyota engineers installed a thermal fuse in the resistor. I think the same part fits a few other cars as well, but I'm not sure which ones. If you're reading this, I suggest you replace the resistor and fan at the same time.
