There seem to be several types of screws for outdoor patios. One type is weather resistant due to a very thin coating that does not interfere with screw placement. This type of screw is coated with a thick material, making the tip less sharp. Every screw has the same problem. You have to bang it into the wood with the weight of the drill to make it start biting. An alternative way is to hit it with a hammer and then a screwdriver. Each of these options is bad and makes using the screw less beneficial. Hitting a word with a drill often results in misplacement. If I'm using a hammer at all, I might as well drive in a ring-shank nail. These lacquered screws are only suitable for grade 2 softwood where such precise adjustment is not required.
