Review on πŸ›Ά High-performance Kayak Canoe Boat Threaded Drain Plug with Screws for YYST 2 by Andrew Schreider

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect fit, good seal. Follow my advice!

I bought these for our Old Town Vapor kayaks which didn't have a factory drain plug. They fit perfectly into the factory recessed installation position. The OD of the drain plug is actually 15/16", so use a 15/16" bit (not 1") and you'll get a very tight fit. As for the foam pad, be sure to use that; to punch holes for the rivets to go through the foam padding but it worked great. I was skeptical at first because the foam padding needs to be about 2/3 thick, but it compresses well. A bit of RTV silicone on the rivet holes and around the rivet hole drain plug just prior to installation is a nice extra safety step. The triple rivets popped out well and were very tight. I highly recommend using rivets on a polyethylene kayak. The self-tapping screws will not hold tight over time and may loosen during installation. Finally I placed a second order a week later I installed this. Why? To ensure I have spare drain plugs in the future in case I lose one. Not all plugs are compatible with each other, the only negative thing I can say about these items is that the drain plug is too long and therefore sits "proudly" in the kayak. Boat cannot drain all water. In hindsight I would have filed the drain plug a bit so that it was flush on the inside.
