I am the original owner of a 2003 Dodge Ram with a Cummins engine. The Cummins engine is excellent, but in Dodge trucks they have a well deserved reputation for water pump leaks. My truck has just over 111,000 miles and is on the fourth water pump. The original failed after a mileage of approx. 25,000 km. Prices vary wildly and I think aftermarket suppliers have benefited from the Cummins WP issue. Some manufacturers offer very expensive replacement pumps that they assume will fix the problem, but I couldn't find anything online to back up their claims. I chose Gates because I have faith in a brand that has been around for quite some time - at least 60 years as far as I can remember. I don't expect this pump to last any longer than any of the others I've used on the truck, but due to the short life of the original pump I don't expect any of them to last no matter how much you're willing to pay. . . As for the apparent quality of the Gates pump, it looks very good. I haven't found anything to suggest it's a cheap product. I gave this product four stars because only time will tell if it deserves five stars.
