Review on πŸ”‘ Vintage Mortise Lock Crystal Knob Set with Skeleton Key - Old Time Elegance by Dave Wolf

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great replacement for old interior doors.

Our front doors and some bathroom doors were modernized prior to buying the house but none of the bedroom door locks were replaced so they still use the old single key hardware. I wanted to add privacy and extra security so I was looking for a good mortise lock to replace the old ones. I finally found it (after a long search). Received yesterday, installed and works great. Not all parts fit perfectly, but that's not a disadvantage of the lock. Most likely, there are only a few different types of locks made with different orientations. After all, I don't need to make any major changes. The panels are lined up about a quarter inch higher than the old ones, so I have to repaint one side of the door and finish the other (in very small areas). Strike plates do not match. At the moment, part of the handle doesn't engage - I have to remove the old strike plate, remove a small part of the frame and put a new one in it (but even without this, the latch engages perfectly). I was able to use the old crystal pins instead of the ones that came with them. I was hoping to use the old pads but the locking part is built into a plate and doesn't look like it could be adapted to the old ones. But it looks and works great and I'll be ordering another one for our guest room. Update: I bought a set of wood chisels and fixed the latch and strike issues on my door. I have also ordered and installed another lock in another room. Updated February 9, 2012: I bought two more of these locks after we moved our bedroom to one that still had the old locks. The kits I bought a while ago still work just as well as I installed them.
