My home office is in the basement just below the router placement on the ground floor. I have noticed that my laptop (Dell Latitude) loses the wireless signal frequently (about every 30-90 minutes). The computer is about 5 years old. After troubleshooting, I came to the conclusion that the wireless adapter had probably started to fail. After researching Revain's options, I settled on this Wi-Fi adapter. I received the adapter yesterday. I am using Windows 10 Pro. I plugged the Wi-Fi adapter into an available USB port and Windows 10 installed it with no problems. Since installing the adapter, I haven't lost my Wi-Fi signal and my machine's wireless network performance has noticeably improved. The four-star rating has nothing to do with the performance of the wireless adapter. I gave it four stars because the instructions and CD are only valuable if you are using older versions of Windows (Win7, XP, Vista). This can be confusing for those new to these types of issues and running Windows 10. Unless your current wireless adapter is completely dead (like in my case), you should disable your current wireless adapter. To do this in Windows 10 go to Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Network Connections. Select your current wireless adapter (it should show multiple active bands), right-click and choose Disable from the context menu. Now select a new WLAN adapter. In my setup it shows up as Realtek RTL8811 AU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB 2.0 Network Adapter (so don't be surprised if you don't see the device brand as USBNOVEL). Right-click on this device and select "Activate" from the context menu. Your new wireless adapter should show active bands and work smoothly. I am satisfied with the performance of this device. I love the low profile. In addition, the device has a small flashing blue light that provides visual confirmation that it is working. My only concern is the lack of installation instructions for Windows 10 users. I tried to fix that in this review. However, this is an oversight by the manufacturer, which may cause installation problems for some people.
