I have an HP Specter x360 2017 Edition. This laptop has a USB-A port, two USB-C ports (one of them Thunderbolt), an HDMI port and a full-size SD card slot. I bought this USB hub mainly for the extra USB-A ports (to help with gaming) and the ethernet port. But I thought what could I lose with the extra SD card slot and HDMI port? What I like. It says it supports 87W charging via the built-in USB-C port. I tested it (see Figure 3) and it works. But I didn't check the voltage to make sure it was actually consuming 87W of charging power. This should be attempted by someone else. 3 USB 3.0 ports are FAST. I connected my external hard drive to it and tried to transfer the file. During this transfer I got 117 Mbps. When I plugged it into my motherboard's onboard USB-A port and transferred the exact same file, I got similar speeds. What usually worries me about these Asian tech products is that there's always a compromise. Thankfully, USB-A wasn't the compromise it was. It includes a micro SD and a full size SD card slot. I didn't particularly care since my laptop had it, but I think it's good to have a backup. - Ethernet port included - Short but very handy PC cable and excellent workmanship - HDMI port included does not affect the quality. However, you can't use this on 4K screens without a 30Hz refresh rate. At least they advertise it on their product info page. Additionally, if you want the HDMI port to work with high power devices, the hub must be plugged into a power source. This isn't really a problem since you wouldn't normally connect your computer to a dock without power anyway, but it should be noted. when connected directly to a PC. When transferring through a hub, I got about 20 Mbps, compared to 40 Mbps on a PC. I didn't check the ethernet port as I don't have one at the moment, but I'll update the review if it totally sucks. Overall, I think this product should be good enough for people who just bought a Macbook Pro or other ultra-thin USB-C laptop and need USB ports and Ethernet ports. There aren't many ports that support Ethernet, giving you three more USB-A ports. The price is mediocre. Of course, given the build quality, you shouldn't expect anything super cheap. Longevity seems good, but I haven't tested it for long-term use yet.
