Review on πŸ”Œ Edimax EW-7833UAC AC1750 Dual-Band Wi-Fi USB 3.0 Adapter, Compatible with Windows 7/8/8.1/10, Mac, and Linux, in White by Terry Paige

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Cannot connect to channel 49 or higher on 5GHz.

I bought this to use on my MSI GE62VR gaming laptop, the internal Intel WiFi could only hold 867MB. Perfect for gaming but not for huge files over 20GB that I move around my home network. So I bought this adapter and now I can connect to 1.3GB (aka 1300MB). But why three stars? Because it can only connect to 5GHz networks on channel 48 or below. Any higher channel can't see the network in Windows 10 or Ubuntu 18.04, and if you manually force it to try to connect, you just get a "connection failed" error message. Everything else in my house (two Google Home Minis, one Google Home, one Pixel XL phone, one Pixel 2 XL phone, one nVidia Shield TV, three laptops with Intel WiFi) can connect to my home network, this adapter but not unless it is channel 48 or less. So I had to set my router to channel 48, but there are a number of other WiFi networks on all channels 48 and below (I live in an apartment complex with 10 neighbors as usual). Wi-Fi range) which slows down my home Wi-Fi, thus negating the benefit of this faster Wi-Fi adapter. Hopefully a firmware update will be released that fixes this issue, otherwise it works great.
