Great replacement for the MB W212 M157 air intake pipes

If you have a W212 E-Class with an M157 engine, you must have looked in disbelief at the fact that MB put wafer-thin fabric pipes under the hood, which are now torn in many places thanks to a simple attempt to pull out the oil filter. Well I am pleased to report that this plastic tube and fittings are perfect for OEM plastic fittings and a great replacement. Not only is it a fraction of the price of an OEM replacement that will likely break in a few years or so, but it also looks 1,000 times better. Don't worry, either put it in a 300 degree oven for a few minutes or run a heat gun over it for a bit and not only will it snap back to its round shape but it will also become flexible enough to fit over the OEM slide plastic cover. parts. When it cools down, it lays down nicely on the plastic. It was so tight I didn't even bother to tape or clamp it. I think I spent more time and effort ripping the old fabric hose off the OEM fittings than actually molding and attaching a new coupler and hoses to it. You'll need one set for each side, although I only used about half. tube length. I've seen photos of what others have done and it looks great but I hesitated for a while before purchasing it and wondered if I could reproduce similar results as I have no body work or tuning experience or anything like that. But really all you need is an oven (or heat gun), pliers with needles to remove the old pieces of fabric tubing from the plastic connectors, and scissors, and in about 30 minutes you'll be replacing the torn fabric tubing. with these plastic parts that look factory. The biggest concern was how it would perform in a hot engine bay. I'm wondering if the plastic air duct is melting, deforming, cracking or somehow clogging the air intake. I've had it in my car for about 6 months with a combination of boring daily commutes and occasional spirited driving, and I haven't noticed any performance degradation, even at full throttle with that turbocharged V8 sucking air like crazy. The car behaves and drives as before. Of course, unsurprisingly, I didn't notice any increase in performance either.
