Review on Coolgear Surge Protected 7 Port Mounting by Predrag Holman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Stable hubs are the best among hubs

I have not had any issues with this hub dropping connections or being otherwise "bug". Operates from 12 VDC or bus power and does not provide redundant bus power input. I haven't used DIN mounting clips but they seem cheap - not used for mobile applications. The mounting tabs are strong, but a threaded insert here would be a great addition. The corners of the ears are very sharp. Industrial USB cables with DB-style screw terminals are fine, but it's difficult to find additional cables in all the configurations you might need for non-industrial components. Please note that this box is not sealed but has exposed vents therefore there is no IP rating. I didn't notice this hub getting warm at all. UPDATE 2016: After 3 years of use in multiple applications this was one of the best hubs we have ever used including retail desktop hubs. Only one out of a dozen has failed so far, and I can't say it wasn't due to user or installation error. We will be purchasing more of these devices for both mobile and rack applications.

Pros
  • Excellent build quality. Housed in a rugged steel chassis with built-in mounting flanges, the 7-port hub is ideal for installation in offices, laboratories, warehouses, heavy machinery, automation equipment, and other industrial applications.
Cons
  • Minor issues
