Review on ATD Tools 10511 Shop Polisher by Brian Trujillo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

great tool at a reasonable price

First of all I want to assure people that the assembly, while required, is absolutely minimal. The fact that some people here gave this car a bad review for not figuring out how to put it together just blows my mind. Let's put it this way, if you can't figure out how to attach the handle with the included Allen key and 2 screws, you've got nothing to do with this hardware. If you've used an angle grinder before, it's the same thing on a larger scale. I just wanted to reassure everyone that there is no big build. You don't need any instructions to assemble this even if it comes with them. The only dubious parts bag for some people would be a bag of spare brushes that don't need to be installed unless the original brushes burn out in the future - and unless you live off that buffer, you'll never need them. If you don't work in a workshop and you can't change your car's oil yourself or use a power tool, this isn't what you need to buy. Now for the quality. Very impressive. Solid, durable and much better than expected for the price. The engine only gets really noisy after setting number 3 which I would never use for painting as the last 3 run over 2000rpm and can burn the paint if you are not careful. I was pleasantly surprised that the buffer has stepless speed control from 1000 to 3000 rpm. It has the same variable speed switch above the trigger as its more expensive counterparts. "Smooth start" is also a great feature this machine comes with - way better than instant spraying of a volatile mix or icing. There is basic common sense guidance in the box, but no speed chart to match the numbers on the switch. There is another review here that she posts for you, or you can call customer service if you need it. The included Velcro pad is 7" and 1/8" in diameter, so you don't need pads smaller than 8" for this. If, like me, you want to use smaller pads, 6.5" pads require you to order a 5" Meguires washer separately. As others have said it also comes with a standard 7 inch base plate for wool hats etc and a wool hat for it. The spindle shaft is conventional 5/8"-11 threads, so virtually any other manufacturer's shim is interchangeable with the tool. Well, the bottom line is that I would definitely recommend this bumper to anyone wanting a quality body shell at a fraction of the price At $75 you absolutely can't beat that value The only way (in my opinion) to get an instrument of this quality is if you're willing to shell out another $100 or more for a Makita or other well known brand It's not a problem for me. Great bumper, standard base plate, velcro base plate, wool cap, all shipped to my door for less than $75. Thanks ATD! *UPDATE* After a year and a half dozen 2-5 -hour compounding/glazing/waxing sessions. Never a single problem with the instrument. It still works and sounds like new. Cars look better than fresh factory paint! Can't complain en!
