Surprising, but not bad at all!

I have to admit I wasn't expecting much from this antenna. I've just received a Uniden PRO505XL 40 channel CB radio for use on an upcoming woodland fishing trip and was looking for something cheap and temporary until I could install a "real" CB antenna. I stumbled upon this - my sixth choice - when the first five weren't delivered to my address. However, this antenna was pretty good overall. While during my fishing adventure other people had to stop and get out in the woods to reattach their magnet antennas after being knocked over by a branch or something, mine never moved thanks to the spring. The magnet on it is also quite strong, which makes it quick to hold in place. It comes with an impressive amount of wiring that I routed through the tailgate of my Jeep Cherokee to the front where the CB was installed. look at our assortment. He was using a small emergency CB, which we estimate must be at least 35 years old, and we managed to hear each other nearly four miles away. The official specs say the CB range is two to five miles, so I think that's pretty impressive for a $20 antenna. The important thing I had no idea about until I got this is ANTENNA ADJUSTMENT. You can get an SWR meter, read about it and do it yourself, or if you take it to a place like Radio Shack they can do it for you. They say this thing is "pre-tuned" from the factory and it was pretty good when I tested it, but once tuned it gives a better signal than most I've seen. They say when you have $100. to spend on CB use $20 for the radio itself and $80 for the antenna. Well, I can't say I made it, but I can say that in terms of performance and versatility, this little guy is worth a lot more than the $20 it's sold for. AJH
