i wanted to love him Defective, disappointed : /

April 2019 update: This is the second Trail Boss I've had. You can read about the first one below. The only picture for this update is that the handle is broken into pieces. So first I have to say that this ax is a great deal and really cuts through wood BUT I wouldn't recommend it if you chop, split or buck a lot. If you enjoy limbing or light felling of trees 6" in diameter or less, this ax is for you. To be honest I buy tools that will be used and used hard. oak, hickory) Trees with this thing are all 12-18 inches in diameter and did a great job. Yesterday I was going to do about half a dozen but the pen started crackling and after a few strokes you have a picture. and my ax aim is damn good. This Trail Boss' grip only lasted 1 or 2 misses. Despite all of this I'm still very disappointed as I have other axes that I've owned for years (when my aim was much worse lol) that used HART that are still usable today so it's hard to divulge a rear boss 1 star since this is the second attempt. Original purchase December 2018: Very disappointed with how this ax has been received. Despite rubber protection and plastic wrap on the head, the edge was broken off upon arrival! This tells me that the manufacturer's quality control is low. I can handle the shavings and carve them out, however, but my biggest concern is the handle. There are 2 very noticeable cracks at the end of the handle. One when it goes almost 4 inches up the handle! It's just a cracked pin waiting for the cleavage to go all the way :/ I was really excited to try this babe but will wait for a good one to give it a fair test.
