Good price, poor customer service, difficult installation, no antenna adapter

I have a 2010 VW Jetta TDI. The main attraction of this product is the price, but it has many disadvantages; Every audio store charges around 500 for everything, which is less than half. I am not an experienced person in radio installation, so the installation is not that easy. The main wiring harness is pretty basic, but it comes with a bunch of other wires you don't know where they go. I tried contacting customer service and while I received replies, I never received an answer to my specific questions. If your VW is 08 or older you have CAN-BUS and that should immediately save you two days of emails with the manufacturer. If your radio is drawing power when the car is off, it's because you've connected a wire that says "Do not connect if you have a CAN bus" (thin wire with crimp connection, unplug if your VW is 08 or older). . Installing the camera is an absolute pain and the problem is that it doesn't work when the car is running. Searching the VW forums, it seems that the reason the camera isn't working is because you don't have a stable voltage/current. So they suggest a couple of things: Draw a line straight from the battery. by connecting it to both reversing lights or soldering on a voltage regulator, choose one and let me know if it works. Finally, not all cables are included, the antenna adapter is not included, so you have to look. My car had satellite radio, so two antennas, so I had to buy a double fakra (standard German size) for a single one; You can also get it on Amazon for around $15. Once installed, it fits perfectly like it came from the factory and the sound is decent. You have to fiddle around a lot at first, because with a GPS the volume gets louder/quieter from time to time, sometimes bursting your eardrum and sometimes you can't hear anything at all. My advice: turn off the GPS sound and clicks every time you touch the screen to avoid tearing your speakers. more about that. The GPS works pretty well, I've compared it to my maps app and it's pretty much the same but takes a while to load so use something else for 10 minute trips; good for long distance travel. Bluetooth is ok but I have to set it on every time I get in the car if I want to use it or it drops the connection, I have to play with it more for it to remember. If you have friends who install radios, you can give them $100 to help you install them and still save money by making installation a breeze for them. If you can spend 1 hour setting it up and putting up with its many flaws it's a decent product, for me it was an upgrade from my old stereo, now I have GPS, Bluetooth and an extra USB port to go with it I can live with imperfections.

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
