Review on Moog 80099 Coil Spring Set by Brian Davis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

For 2002 Ford Focus ZX-5 & Awesome Performance

These springs are perfect for the 2002 Ford Focus ZX-5. The product I received was "Moog Cargo Coil 80099 Springs Constant Rate Springs". Cargo Coil appears to be a set of Moog springs. The build quality is top notch and pretty much mirrors everything Moog has to offer on the market. I couldn't find any brands of adjustable springs for this car so I used a fixed spring as standard. I bought my car used with specially lowered springs, so I never really knew how I wanted my car to look or drive. comfortable and smooth ride. As smooth as you'd expect depending on the type of roads you ride. Here in rural Pennsylvania, these springs are especially life-saving, where every road is a bump, a hill, and a curve. After installation I put my car through the final road test and they performed amazingly (thanks to my shock absorbers of course). Installation: On the ZX-5, the coil spring compressors get in the way, and I even bought a much smaller one than usual (Ampro T70570) to avoid space issues. Regardless, the middle compressor screws get in the way. I ended up removing as many components as possible and dropping as many "things" as possible (anti-roll bar, top link, etc.) to get enough leverage to lower the spring arm. This suggestion sums up several hours of work with hand tools. Unless you're armed with pneumatic percussion tools, my best recommendation is to have it professionally serviced. Still, you may run into the problem of loose, seized rubber bushing bolts (like mine) that no amount of torque or leverage can fix other than replacing the entire problematic part.

Pros
  • Worn or slack coil springs can cause premature tire wear due to vehicle misalignment
Cons
  • Hard to tell
