2008 Tundra Steel Bumper Sensors

Please read below for details on these redundant sensors. I bought these for my 2008 Toyota Tundra which you may understand is a big truck. So I went into town and started installing. I have a steel bumper so I needed a step drill to drill through it. Supplied as a kit but is suitable for plastic bumpers but not steel. For me, the size of the gauges required the step bit to fit the 7/8 mark. After drilling, make sure the transducer is inserted smoothly and not tightly. When it's solid, it triggers the sensors and you'll hear a constant beep. There are small tabs on the sensor to prevent it from slipping out. So don't worry about them popping out. Before drilling holes, be sure to measure the height of the sensor and the distance between them. Equal spacing between bumpers is critical. When you have all 4 holes, do the wiring. In my case I placed the control module on the right side of the tail lens due to cable length limitations. The speaker wire is significantly longer and I routed it through the frame, into the cockpit, through the grommet and into the back seat area. This is a speaker. So if you don't have hearing problems, you should be fine. Once this is all assembled it's time to connect. Since I installed the control module in the rear window I had access to the reverse light which I connected the power to. After that I rolled up the wires and closed the lightning, then all together and put in the well (in my case there was a lot of space). Then jump and throw the car backwards and tada. Everything is ready. Remember to make sure your sensors fit smoothly and not tight. You will be unhappy with the results if you hire them permanently. Enjoy.
