My little python loves his new home!

My new (rescue species) ball python loves this stone! I put some bedding in it and now it's his favorite! One of the main advantages is how well it isolates itself. Yesterday I overheated the ceramic bulb over it. The temp at the top of the cliff was over 100⁰F, but inside where it lay the temp was a consistent 84-85. I've only had him for 4 weeks. I think we had the stone for 3 of those weeks. I never saw him leave except to come out and get his dinner. I'm sure he at least drinks while I'm sleeping, but I haven't found him anywhere else in the tank. If removed, it finds it within minutes and folds back into place. I have a big one and I'm sure he can keep it for life. My only problem so far is that when cleaning the outside with paper towels, the surface is so rough that the towels tear. I don't think the rough exterior is a problem for my little guy as he crawls on it quite well. The interior is relatively smooth. I hope it will be perfect to help with his dandruff! Fair warning, if your snake is like mine, they are very protective in their stone. Lifting the top can be a little tricky as I'm not going to put my fingers in the hole. I should try to grab him from the other side. It's not that difficult, but do it very carefully. It's pretty hard. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Your BP will probably love this stone too!
