good bulb, some of the same bulbs for much less price

43W SL19 Eco -Halogen Cut Glass E26 (Medium), Cap, 120V (6 pcs) I use 18 Westinghouse eco-halogen lamps in my home. Things were popping like peanuts at such a rate I wondered if they were worth it. I took a close look at the burned out one and noticed that the burn mark was right over the base and not on the filament. Further investigation led me to believe the lamp had an internal fuse that blew, not a filament. I also noticed that my dining room chandelier, which has five bulbs, didn't have a problem with blown bulbs. The chandelier is controlled by a dimmer switch, not a regular wall switch. I concluded that the problem was the inrush current when the lamp was turned on that was causing the failure. Note that the cold filament in an incandescent light bulb has low electrical resistance, so a lot of current flows in the first few milliseconds after it is turned on. First I thought of putting in a current limit switch (the best solution). The only one I found was x10 which wasn't very user friendly. Since the light is in the bathroom, it was important to me that the light came on full every time it was switched on - luckily I found a dimmer that does just that. Although without current limitation, it has a low end voltage of around 50 volts, which significantly reduces inrush current - Lutron MACL-153M-WH Maestro digital dimmer. I installed it, found it very easy to program and seems to work well. I let them turn on after 2.5 seconds and turn off after 5 seconds. If you buy a dimmer from a store, the instructions that come with it are not very good. I would suggest that you refer to Application Note #459, which can be found at http://www.lutron.com/TechnicalDocumentLibrary/048459.pdf.

Pros
