I was about to buy a Roku player to stream Netflix when I saw this. So Netflix and other services that integrate with the Internet, allow software updates, and play Blu-ray DVDs in their native format seemed like a good alternative for less than $200. To be too good to be true. But it's not too good to be true - it's great. Setup was easy - the only issue for me was having to reboot my cable modem for 460 to be recognized. After multiple checks by Sony and Netflix, my prompt came up, I was able to sign into Netflix and my instant prompt was right there. Tried both SD and HD content and both streamed smoothly and HD content looked amazing. It took about 10 minutes from switching on to receiving the first streaming content. I didn't even crack the manual. For those reviewers who are having trouble playing an internet service and are wondering how much bandwidth do you have? I use Comcast and they recently upgraded their service (was 6Mbps and now 12Mbps - all I had to do was reset my cable modem). Speakeasy speed tests usually show my speed in the 7-10Mbps range. We used to have ATT/bellsouth and could only get 2Mbps - if you have "high speed" service at home you might want to test it or consider an upgrade. I think a service that gives you more than 5Mbps will keep things running smoothly. Any less than that and you may end up with some lag/latency. And I should probably try this at peak bandwidth times (sometimes it drops to 3MB/s), try HD streaming and see what happens. Almost similar to the Apple Mac in its user-friendliness, all settings and options are very clear. The remote is simple and controls the volume and inputs on my Sony TV with no settings (why they don't change channels up/down on this remote is beyond me - if they did I could access the TV remote do without - is not of great importance ). Interesting features during DVD playback, such as B. A display of bandwidth usage, NPR and streaming radio and other Internet content. I just have no idea what it is. Let's just hope their partnership with these services stays strong and that they can expand to others if/when that happens. Loading times are very fast, but note that this is an option that you toggle on and off. When it's on, it uses more power when it's off to ensure fast boot times. Even when it's off, you see 25 seconds. I'd rather have that than knowing that I'm using energy 22 hours a day, I'm not using this thing. I've had mixed success with Sony products (it seems either great or the lemon you bring back) but this is a great product. Highly recommended. Let's hope it's strong and stays strong. Now if Sony would only release this model in a DVD burning version, with a VHS combo box and FireWire capability, they would have me buying that too.
