We recently bought a 14 inch bike for my 5 year old son because he was getting too big for his 12 inch bike. That extra 2 inches in the wheels completely changed the ride quality. He rode his 12-inch bike with no training wheels (he started at age 4) but his legs ached trying to keep up with his big brother. Now he's fast and can stay with his brother on his 14" bike. I want us to buy him a 16" bike because 14" wheels are a very unusual wheel size for bikes but since it's shorter (22" inseam on jeans) and he rides without training wheels, 16" wheels were expensive too. Too big even with the seat folded all the way down. Great bike, very durable and easy to assemble even for the clumsy people . :)
