My van suddenly had an issue with the steps not fully retracting. They got stuck a few inches from their final position. A few hammer hits on the motor temporarily fixed the problem, but the steps still stuck in that "too short" position when extending and retracting. Although the problem could only be related to the engine, replacing the engine and transmission completely solved the problem. Replacing the engine and transmission was fairly easy. I supported the steps with a prop to keep them from falling. I then unplugged the power, loosened the 4 bolts holding the gearbox to the frame, disconnected the drive arm from the steps, attached the new motor and gearbox, reconnected the arm and finally reconnected the power.
