Great coffee, overly complex

My husband is a coffee drinker and programmer. So when he says this car is too complicated, I take his word for it. There are so many things I love about this car and so many things I don't like. Let's start with what we don't like: 1. There is no hinged lid on the carafe2. The coffee grounds are ALWAYS open. By this I mean that the dripper rotates over the filter but does not completely occlude the filter. This means that if you brew coffee overnight, the coffee grounds will be exposed and open all night.3. The electronic menu is NOT intuitive. My husband noticed this and I completely agree with him. Rarely does he have to read an instruction manual to do something as simple as setting the time on a coffee pot. but he did it for it. The pot has a "Select" button that can do anything but select. For example, when you set the clock on the coffee pot, 2 buttons light up - Select and Back. So I set the hour for the time using the 'Select' button and now there is no way to confirm the hour and continue setting the minutes. The affirmation method is to actually do nothing. You just wait about 5 seconds and then it will be automatically confirmed and switched to minutes. The whole coffee pot is like that, you always have to wait for the automatic confirmation.4. Be careful how you put the glass filter back! The glass filter slides from left to right when placed in the coffee pot. The left side drains the filter into the pot, the right side. no That's right, if you set the filter wrong, you'll wake up with a huge mess on the floor. I understand this feature so you can rotate the filter to extract the coffee as it brews, rather than having coffee all over the place. The reality is that this is a disaster waiting in the wings.5. The delayed brew setting is too complicated. I'm used to my old coffee pots where I brew my coffee before bed, hit the auto-on button, the light comes on and I'm out of the kitchen. not with this pot you do not. Instead, you press the Brew Later button, which prompts you to confirm the number of cups and the strength of the drink. It then tells you how much water to add for the cups. It will then tell you how much coffee to add for the selected strength/cup. You will then be asked to confirm the time (be careful not to click select right here or you will change the time). While confirming these steps, you'll also need to hold down the Weld Later button, as we've already established that the Select button doesn't actually select anything, it changes things. 6. The handle is made of glass/pyrex. Although it's very durable, I always feel like I'll break it if I pick it up and pour it. What I like: 1. The coffee is bloody delicious. Honestly, this is one of the best pot coffees I've ever tasted. It outperforms any other machine I have ever owned and I have been looking for the perfect coffee pot for years. Seriously, over the past few years I've tried many $100-$200 coffee pots to find the perfect one for me. Unfortunately this is not the right coffee pot and I will look for something better.2. The coffee pot is really nice. During brewing, the container is even illuminated in blue. Everything about the components of the coffee pot is perfect. Glass carafe, glass filter, built-in drip tray at the bottom, it's all so cute.3. The measurement in grams is a very useful feature. Once you've found your ideal brew settings, you can use the gram scale setting to brew the same pot every time. I really like it because I just blindly throw coffee in my filters.4. It is actually a very short coffee pot. You will have no problem placing it under your lockers as I have 17.5 inch cabinet storage space in my house and there is plenty of space. I think Hamilton Beach really missed the mark with the electronic programming feature. A few tweaks could have made this coffee pot my best, but unfortunately I'll probably be replacing it with something more user-friendly over the next year.

Pros
  • DESIGNED TO LAST: The coffee brewer prevents spills when the carafe is pulled away. The durable borosilicate glass jug has an internal blending tube that blends coffee for consistent flavor from first sip to last drop.
Cons
  • It's okay
