I went to welding class and had a cheap HF helmet. I did not see anything. Also, an old helmet kinda blinded me with an arc and I also couldn't see the background or what I was welding. I bought this helmet after research. I am happy. My welds are twice as good now and I've finally had the breakthrough of being able to see what I'm doing. Now I can successfully apply a good bead and weld much better. I've been welding with a 9 shade helmet for a couple of hours tonight and could see the material I was working with, saw the bead but the arc didn't blind me. Perfect! It was always turned on (dimmed), even remotely, when the instructor was showing the weld. The material of the helmet is not heavy plastic, but it is sufficient for my needs. I had some sparks on my head doing 90 degree welds and the instructor gave me a welding cap to wear which worked fine (didn't know they existed). The helmet has adjustable stops to control how low the helmet can go. The window looks huge compared to the old helmet. Worth every penny.
