Review on πŸ”§ High-Quality Dorman 917-214 VVT Solenoid for Lexus/Toyota Models: Passenger Side Engine Variable Valve Timing Solution by Tone Hatton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best option at the moment, although it works well.

My two original VVT solenoids on my 1999 Lexus ES 300 fail within a year which doesn't seem unusual so it's recommended that both the left and right banks be replaced at the same time for convenience and price. Revain was able to deliver them quickly and the price was reasonable. As with cheaper aftermarket parts, the build quality of the stock doesn't feel as solid as stock parts. I hope this won't cause any more problems in the future, but my first Dorman VVT solenoid has lasted 10,000 miles so far. Accessing the right side is definitely more difficult than the left, which I replaced earlier. I have very little automotive experience, but with a little study and care this is a perfectly doable do-it-yourself replacement. While not as expensive as stock parts, I sometimes wonder how different these dormans really are to other Chinese made VVT solenoids in terms of quality. I had no intention of finding out and trying out the cheaper offerings, it just wasn't worth playing with. If I had had more time (and a different vehicle) I might have gone for the real part, but I feel comfortable with my decision to go with these Dormans.
