So they probably won't last forever. BUT, rubber bands are much more comfortable to wear under a tie than models with a solid plastic or metal spring. These guys just don't bend when you twist your neck, and obviously your collar is already tight, otherwise you don't need extenders. I realize they won't last forever (the plastic construction feels a little cheap), but they're the most comfortable of the three versions I've tried, they're inexpensive, and they get the job done. (I hate throwing away a very expensive shirt, so I keep it with me until the last of my "tight" shirts is worn out.)
