Review on Honeywell SENSORS WAVE2PD Indoor Siren with Dual Tone and PIEZO DYNA by Scott Richardson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent goods. Don't pay attention to bad reviews!

Ignore the negative reviews from customers who didn't know what it was for or how to connect it. This is a standard 12v siren, like the Wave 2 model, and has inputs for continuous tone and trill (your choice). No, it is not compatible with wireless networks or Zwave. This is an ordinary wired piezo siren. I bought this for my First Alert system (Vista 20P clone) to replace my standard Wave 2 and I have to say it's just as loud and shrill and still makes a siren sound as the Wave. -2 does (most piezo sirens just screech). The difference is that your standard driver/speaker sirens like the 747 and Wave-2 are high power, typically drawing between 400 and 600 mA (1/2 amp average). For an alarm system, this is a big current. If you need more than two sirens, you may want to add extra power to support them. When AC power is off, the battery draws a lot of current, shortening its runtime. This is a piezo siren that draws around 120mA, so 1/3 to 1/4 of the current drawn, meaning you can use a few of these before you get close to your current limit. It's also slightly thinner than the Wave-2 as it doesn't have a speaker cone. I ran it and it'll still burst your eardrums. Even if your system requires a single siren, this low-power device is a good choice. Most systems only have a bell output and a firing pulse so you can choose whatever tone you want, you won't be hooking up both continuous tone and warble unless you have an old Moose system or something. Just plug in a trill and you're good.

Pros
  • Easy to set up
Cons
  • Really don't like it, everything is fine

They work well and were louder than I expected.
