We bought a size 7-8 for my 9 year old 55lbs and he thought it was too small so we bought the next one.

This is our second pair of this type of pants. We bought a size 7-8 for my 25kg 9 year old and he thought it was too small so we bought the next size up 9/10. and they are a bit loose, otherwise they fit well and look nice. It takes a while to get used to not having mesh underwear inside, but overall these are good swim shorts.
