Review on Toshiba SD1200 SD 1200 DVD Player by Edwin Cen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great player (quality and features) at a great price: buy it!

I just received this player a week ago and I already love it. My father already had an old Toshiba SD2109 (previous model - SD1200 - new replacement) and it seemed fine to me so I followed those reviews; see them for more details if you want just check out the improvements in this model. The SD1200 has the same features as the SD2109 but with the added features of VideoCD and CD/Teletext. I was even able to play some old VCD2.0 tour videos from China, they worked great, no crashes! The matrix played normally. The video quality is excellent, both at the S-Video output and of course at the component output - the SV has slightly less color saturation than the component output. Dolby Digital sounded great! Please note that this player has some important features compared to others: not to mention the low price and quality! + only $230-$250 for ALL the features you want in a DVD! Don't pay more!+ outputs both Dolby Digital and DTS compatible with all movies. (doesn't decode, but don't worry - plug it into a receiver, not a DVD!) * Please note that it only has a coaxial digital audio output, not optical. Make sure your receiver is compatible (my JVC RX888 is great). Outputs audio in Dolby Digital, dts, PCM Digital format. It also has the usual analogue of RCA. You can select the parameters and the ones to be displayed via the remote control. + there are all video outputs: Component, S-Video and Composite. Please note that some others, like the Sony SVP330, DO NOT HAVE component output, only svideo!+ plays video CDs (unlike SD2109).+ has slow motion mode (1/2, 1/4, 1/8 ) and fast forward/rewind. (doesn't seem to have reverse slow.) Other players only have "pause/step". What's the point of having a random access hard drive with a great slow motion/freeze frame if you can't play in slow motion to see big explosions? in detail? :->+ has a nice user interface, for example the one on the screen - a nice, unobtrusive, convenient menu, superimposed on the video. You can also change most settings on the fly using the buttons on the remote control, e.g. B. Subtitles, audio selections, etc. with minimal text on the screen - handy for changing certain things quickly without distracting from the movie. All the menu options are easy to understand, such as the not "cool looking" but unusable interface (the JVC555 was quite difficult to use in this regard). - Remote control buttons are a bit small and play/pause etc aren't "highlighted" or bigger so you have to look at the remote (no backlight.) + dimmable display on the player if you don't want to disturb the time counter etc. in a stereo rack. + Resume from a stop mode, e.g. B. Stop and then, if necessary, Continue where you were. You can also type the exact value of HHMMSS to jump there and archive it immediately. + Screen saver for long pauses so you don't burn your new big screen projection TV :-) Otherwise all comments apply to SD2109 as well. I didn't notice too much noise (disc tray/rotation) when playing discs, it seems quiet. Good design, e.g. B. the compartment can be opened/closed safely. Small and light, but heavy on function and performance! I've heard the SD2109's aren't CD-R compatible, although I've played a couple of 'mixed' discs that a friend made for me and it seems to work fine. Not sure if it's CDR or CDRW or whatever but they work. I highly recommend this player. Take it. + a screen saver for a long pause so you don't burn your new big screen projection TV :-) Otherwise, all comments on the SD2109 apply.
