Purchased this as a used item to replace an existing model that had a burned out laser sensor and were told there were no serviceable parts? Looks like the used car is being repaired so I may need another shop to bother! The packaging was awful with no padding on the sides and bottom so hitting the sides would seriously damage the device. Whatever it was, the suitcase was dislocated with broken plastic pieces dangling inside! I adjusted everything carefully and so far everything seems fine.

I reviewed probably 3 and 2 dozen different players for about 3 months and settled on SD1200. This is a great full-featured mid-range player. I personally don't find the remote control as bad as many say and I don't have small hands at all. The button is on the smaller side, but no less than any other remote control. One important point I want to hear before buying this great player, you won't be able to play most DVDs without the remote control. So if you lost the remote, no movie. Most of us just pop in a disc and hit the play button, so one more button (enter) on the player could make a big difference in usability. Said console itself is poorly constructed. I made a mistake by buying a Samsung player that essentially died after 2 months. When looking for a replacement, I noticed that many people say great things about Toshiba brands. This is one of those great exceptions where cheap simplicity equals product quality. I say cheap because this is one of the cheapest DVD players on the market. I just received this player a week ago and I already love it. My father already had an old Toshiba SD2109 (previous model - SD1200 - new replacement) and it seemed fine to me so I followed those reviews; see them for more details if you want just check out the improvements in this model.
