Review on πŸ“± Sena SRL Shoei Neotech II Bluetooth Communication System: Enhanced Motorcycle Connectivity by Tommy Almasri

Revainrating 2 out of 5

SENA did not test this on drivers prior to release.

Advantages: fits exactly on the helmet. Relatively inconspicuous. Ease of installation. Cons: I've used the SRL for about 5,000 miles now. My biggest gripe is that it takes a long three-second press of the center button to activate Siri. My previous 20S had a dedicated button that you could just press and activate the phone. It was great but no luck with SRL. God forbid you press the wrong button as you will call your last dialed number. The next big issue for me is that the SRL won't charge while it's running. Totally unusable while charging. My 20S can be charged while driving and listening to music or GPS. Not so with SRL. If you connect it to a power source while it's on, it will turn off immediately and won't turn on again until it's unplugged from the power source. Completely useless for longer-than-battery rides unless you want breaks in use if you leave it charging during a ride. I left the USB connector connected to the SRL battery, slung it over my shoulder, and tucked it in my breast pocket until the unit died. Then I plugged it into a USB outlet and let it charge for several hours. Rinse and repeat. The third minus point is the sound. If you set the volume in the middle range, but increase the volume, it becomes tinny and the quality deteriorates. SENA needs to make major changes to how the device is activated and how the buttons are displayed. You also need to fix the possibility of using it while charging. In its current iteration, this is a complete disappointment. For a device made for a touring helmet, this is terrible for touring.

Pros
  • practical matter
Cons
  • The list is getting long.
